01Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Massarrah ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App. These Terms also govern your use of our website at massarrah.app.
02Description of Service
Massarrah (Ω Ψ³Ψ±ΩΨ©, "joy" in Arabic) is an educational mobile application that teaches ancient Mesopotamian cuneiform writing systems through:
- Structured lessons with spaced repetition across 4 progressive levels
- 8 quiz types and 8 interactive games
- A library of 44 cuneiform signs with audio pronunciations
- Historical information about Mesopotamian tablets and artifacts
- Progress tracking with achievements, streaks, and daily challenges
The App is designed to work offline. No account or internet connection is required for core learning features.
03Eligibility
Massarrah is a general-audience educational app with no minimum age requirement. The App does not require account creation and does not collect personal information. Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise children under 13 when using any digital application.
04User License
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial educational purposes, subject to these Terms and the applicable platform's usage rules.
You may not:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Modify, adapt, or create derivative works
- Redistribute, sell, rent, lease, or sublicense the App or its content
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to circumvent security features or access restrictions
05Intellectual Property
App Content: All educational materials, illustrations, audio recordings, game designs, UI/UX design, and software within Massarrah are the property of Massarrah or its licensors, protected by copyright and intellectual property laws.
Cuneiform Heritage: Cuneiform writing is part of humanity's shared cultural heritage. The signs themselves and their established historical meanings are in the public domain. Our specific educational content, organization, and presentation are proprietary.
Your Data: You own your learning data stored locally on your device.
Open Source: The App uses open-source software components. License information is available in the App under Settings > About > Licenses.
06In-App Purchases (Tip Jar)
Massarrah offers optional tip purchases to support continued development. Tips are:
- Consumable one-time transactions (not subscriptions, not restorable)
- Entirely voluntary β no features are locked behind tips
- Processed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store β we never receive your payment details
Pricing: Displayed in your local currency by the platform store. Prices may change without prior notice.
Refunds: Due to the consumable nature of tips, we cannot process refunds directly. Contact Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google Play for refund requests.
Tax: Handled by the platform stores based on your location.
07Privacy
Your use of the App is governed by our Privacy Policy, incorporated into these Terms by reference.
08Third-Party Services
The App uses Firebase services (Analytics, Crashlytics, Authentication) provided by Google, and processes in-app purchases through Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.
09Data Deletion
All learning data is stored locally on your device. You may:
- Delete all data through Settings > Advanced > Delete All Data (this permanently erases all progress, achievements, settings, and preferences β this cannot be undone)
- Reset learning progress while keeping settings via Settings > Advanced
- Export your data as JSON via Settings > Advanced > Export My Data
- Uninstall the App to remove all local data
Previously collected analytics data (if you opted in) is retained by Firebase for up to 14 months. Crash data is retained for up to 90 days. Firebase anonymous authentication records may persist on Google's servers.
10Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. We do not warrant that:
- The App will be uninterrupted or error-free
- Educational content is complete, current, or free from inaccuracies
- The App will meet your specific learning requirements
Educational Content: Cuneiform scholarship is an evolving field. New archaeological discoveries may change accepted interpretations. The App presents one interpretive approach among several valid scholarly traditions. It is designed for educational enrichment, not formal academic certification.
11Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MASSARRAH SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP.
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid for in-app purchases in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
12Dispute Resolution
Governing Law: These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States.
Informal Resolution: Before filing any formal dispute, contact us at support@massarrah.app and attempt to resolve the matter informally for at least thirty (30) days.
Limitation on Claims: Any claim must be commenced within one (1) year after the cause of action accrues.
13Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We reserve the right to restrict access if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your license to use the App ends and all local data is deleted upon uninstall.
14Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be reflected by an updated version number and effective date. Material changes will be communicated through app update notes. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
15Accessibility
We are committed to making Massarrah accessible. The App supports VoiceOver (iOS), TalkBack (Android), Dynamic Type, and high-contrast display. We target WCAG AA compliance. If you encounter accessibility barriers, contact us at support@massarrah.app.
16Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
17Apple App Store Terms
These additional terms apply to users who download Massarrah from the Apple App Store:
- These Terms are between you and Massarrah, not Apple Inc. ("Apple"). Massarrah, not Apple, is solely responsible for the App.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
- If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a purchase price refund. Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Massarrah, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product liability, regulatory compliance, and consumer protection claims.
- Massarrah is responsible for investigating, defending, and settling any intellectual property infringement claims.
- You represent that you are not in a US-embargoed country or on any US government prohibited party list.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them.
